The Sisodia kin ruled over the Mewar Kingdom and their capital was transferred to Udaipur from Chittorgarh, after Maharana Uday Singh founded the Udaipur city. The Mewar County became a part of the state of Rajasthan soon after India got its independence.
According to the history, the founder of Udaipur, Maharana Uday Singh was once hunting, when he saw a sacred man who was meditating on a hilltop which was overlooking the Pichola Lake. The monk than blessed the Maharaja and suggested him to set up a palace in that favorable spot which is surrounded by a productive valley. Maharana Uday Singh liked the advice and built Udaipur city in the year 1559.
