The Pangong Lake, located at an altitude of 14,270ft is an experience of heaven on earth. It is Asia’s largest and highest lake. Because of its unconventional beauty, often called as moon land. The black necked cranes and other migratory birds enhance the beauty of the lake. The serene beauty of the lake has not only attracted the tourists, also the filmmakers. The well-known Khurnak fort on the International border (China) is located at the banks of Pangong Lake.

The best season to visit this adventurous place is in summers, from April to September. It is perfect destination for summer holidays, the rest of the India is either struck with hot winds or the loo or with the monsoons. During the winters, the water if the lake freezes and the yaks, goats move on the frozen water. The road, just 5 km before the lake is troublesome water from snow melting block. The local cuisine is the merger Tibetan, Indian and Continental food. The beautiful Pangong Lake is only 4 to 5 hours from Leh. While covering the route from Leh to Pangong Lake, you can visit Karu, Changla Pass and Spangmik. Even the monasteries of Thicksey, Hemis and Shey, when going through this route. The nearest petrol pump is at Karu. The jeep safaris are best suited for the swirly and twirly mountain roads. These helps in exploring the unexplored beauty of nature. There is a lot to visit, the beautiful valleys, remarkable view of snowcapped mountains and old temple with monasteries. To enjoy the charm of the valley of Leh Ladakh, minimum of 5 days are required. Being a tourist spot, there is no scarcity of accommodation. There are ample number of hotels and guest houses. The most important thing to keep in mind is that to visit Pangong Lake an inner line permit is required. This permit is catered from Deputy Commissioner’s office in Leh.
