Kaziranga National Park – Assam

One of the most famous National Parks located in the north eastern state of Assam, Kaziranga National Park is a world heritage site declared by UNESCO in 1985. Spread over an area of 430 sq km., the world famous National Park is situated along the river Brahmaputra and Karbi Anglong hills. Most interestingly, Kaziranga National Park is a home to more than 70% of one-horned Rhinoceroses in the world. The park is devoid of any significant presence of human inhabitation.

The Park is rich in varied varieties of flora and fauna. The major wildlife found in the Park includes Wild Buffalo, Eleplant, Eastern Swamp Deer, Turtle, Toirtoise, Leopard, Large Indian Civet and others. Kaziranga National Park is an abode to 25 globally threatened and 21 near threatened species of birds. Some of them are the Baza, Bengal Florican, Hornbills, Osprey, Pelicans, and Waterfowls.

In addition, very rich aquatic floral population is found in the 150 perennial water bodies situated inside the Kaziranga National Park campus. It is roughly estimated that around 32 species of flora are present inside the park area. More than 60 species of fishes have been found within the boundary of Kaziranga National Park.

The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is during the period from October to May. Thousands of tourists visit the park during these months.

There are many reasonable accommodation facilities around the park area. Visitors could also avail lodging facilities by State Tourism department in the area.

The nearest airport is at Guwahati. However, Kolkata is the major airport that connects the place with rest of the major cities of India by air. The nearest railways station is at Furkating that is just 75 km from Kaziranga National Park. The National Park is well connected by road to all the major cities of India. The nearest bus station is at a distance of 75 km in Furkating.
