Kanha National Park-Madhya Pradesh
Located in the Mandla and Balaghat districts of Madhya Pradesh, the Kanha National Park is also a Tiger Reserve. Created in the year 1955, the Kanha National Park covers an area of 1,940 sq. km, which makes it the largest National Park in Central India. The surrounding buffer zone of 1,067 sq km and the neighboring 110 sq km Phen Sanctuary together forms the Kanha Tiger Reserve.
Kanha National Park is rich in diverse varieties of flora and Fauna. The Park is home to around 22 species of mammals and over 1000 species of flowering plants. The park is also home to leopards, Wild Dog, Wild Cat, Fox, Jackal, Swamp Deer, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Barking Deer and the four horned deer. The park is the only habitat of the rare hard grounder Barasingha. Tourists can easily spot tigers in the area.
The Kanha National Park boasts of over 200 species of birds. Tourists can easily spot tigers in the area. Over 70 varities of trees are found in the park area. Major trees found in the Kanha National Park include the Sal, Saj, Dhaora, Tendu, Arjun, Amla, Palas, Salai, Mango, Jamun and Bamboo.
The weather in this part of the country is mostly pleasant but the best period to visit the place is from February to June.
