Coorg

A quaint and undulating place, the town of Coorg in Karnataka is also well known as the “Scotland of India.” Nestling away from the hustle bustle of the cities, the place is surrounded by mesmerizing mountain ranges that are dotted with beautiful waterfalls all around.

All this and more makes it the perfect destination for all romance seekers, who’d like to spend quality time in the lap of nature besides their beloved.

There are plenty of options for sightseeing as well. As already told, a number of waterfalls, including the Abbey and the Mallalli waterfalls attract thousands of tourists all round the year.

The dense forests, coffee plantations, sprawling clouds over the mountain tops and the amazingly orange orchards that exude a fresh aroma will leave you spellbound and always wanting for more.

For the more adventure seeking couple, Coorg is popular for angling and trekking, and many nearby areas can be explored on foot, or even on hired bikes and bicycles. The places that interest most people are the Raja’s Fort; and the very famous Omakeshwara Temple, where the newlyweds come to seek the blessings of the almighty Shiva.

Although there are several hotels in the town, the best option for staying is the local home stays, run mostly by the plantation owners. You can not only experience the charm of a small town living here, but enjoy the seclusion and the amazing ambiance of the gardens, visible right outside your window.

The best option to reach Coorg is the road. The nearest railway station is at Mysore, about 100 km from here. Regular buses ply to the town, but the long 4-5 journey could become back breaking if you come by local buses. The best option is to hire taxis, or if you’re coming from the nearby Manglore, to get here in your own car.
